Deacon Carrington “Scotty” Scott, a veteran and member of Pompano Beach Elks Lodge #1898, has been operating a food distribution program with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. This is the relationship that brought the food program and the Elks together. It became evident that the food program and the community would be better served with the participation of the Elks and with the use of their facility, since it is located in a neighborhood that could benefit from the program. The Elks food giveaway program will take place on the fourth Saturday of each month. On July 22, 11 volunteers from the BSO’s COP group (three were also members of the lodge) and 15 lodge volunteers served approximately 100 families.
On June 11, Hollywood West Elks Lodge #2365 held its annual Flag Day ceremony. Lodge officers conducted the ceremony, which involved the presentation of the nation’s flags by members of the South Florida Boy Scouts Chapter, followed by a retired flag ceremony.
