Parental Considerations for Summer Campers
-
The Florida Elks Youth Camp is an accredited camp with the American Camp Association.
-
Campers will always be with 2 staff members.
-
The camp is gated, and the gate is closed while camp is in session.
-
There are always two nurses on duty should anything happen to a camper.
-
There is a walkie-talkie in each track for instant communication.
-
Campers are given a water bottle on the day of check-in to help combat the heat. Water breaks are taken regularly at each activity so everyone will stay hydrated.
-
All staff working at the camp, including kitchen, maintenance and housekeeping, have gone through a criminal background and sex offender check.
-
The following are prohibited at camp: animals (except service animals), weapons, alcohol, drugs, and personal sports equipment. Campers cannot have vehicles.
-
Staff is given a full week of training before the campers arrive.
-
Keep your child on any medications that he/she is on for the school year. Withdrawal at camp is not fair to your child or to the other campers and staff. Nurses can only dispense medicines in original packaging.
-
Sneakers are needed for campers. Running games and sports are played daily.
-
Campers are outside most of the day. Teach them how to apply sunscreen several times a day.
-
There is no soda and no junk food while they are here. Please do not send any of this as it cannot stay in the cabins once it is opened.
-
Campers get three meals a day plus a snack before bedtime.
-
A dress code will be adhered to by everyone. Please make sure anything packed follows FEYC dress code. You can find this on the “Suggested Items to Bring to Camp” list.
-
Please allow plenty of time for arrival. We depend on parents arriving and leaving on time so that we may begin camp on time.
-
Activities begin immediately following check-in. Please have your child in proper clothing.
