On Jan. 13, Oakland Park Elks Lodge #2407 hosted its annual children’s fishing tournament. The tournament, which has been hosted for the past six years, was funded by the $2,500 Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant. Member Scott Slinko, local scout master, organized the event, which was held on the new Pompano Beach Pier.

Pompano Beach Elks Lodge #1898 sponsored the Coral Springs Middle School Band with a $2,000 donation. Lodge members were invited to the winter holiday concert Dec. 6 to hear the beginning band, symphonic band, wind ensemble and the marching Stallions. The lodge received a two-page layout in all event programs, premier placement of the Elks logo on the band members’ shirts that were worn in the Universal Orlando parade and other performances, a website link on the band sponsor webpage, a fence banner at the school and the lodge logo projected on a large screen before the performance. The band will also play at a future lodge event. The lodge’s donation will help cover the cost of instruments, lessons, uniforms and travel.

On Oct. 14, Hollywood West Elks Lodge #2365 held its annual golf tournament, with 55 golfers participating. Proceeds of $1,000 were donated to Florida Elks Children’s Therapy Services, with an additional $500 given to the Harry-Anna Trust Fund.
On Nov. 7, Hollywood West Lodge hosted its Hoop Shoot. The lodge is now also sponsoring the Cooper City Optimist #2015 girls traveling soccer team.

On Dec. 7, Boca Raton Lodge donated $800 of its Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant to the Boca Raton High School Naval Junior ROTC.
