Ladies and gentlemen, it is customary for the outgoing State President to acknowledge one individual within our very talented FSEA membership who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and energy in the promotion of a charitable activity. Needless to say there are hundreds of our fellow Elks this year who have shown such initiative and whom we could justly honor.
However, there is one such member who I believe we could all gratefully acknowledge and agree has been extremely dedicated in promoting a program to recognize our deceased veterans and their contributions in the defense and service of our country. He has been instrumental in arranging for over 3,000 certificates to surviving family members toward recognition by a grateful nation for deceased military personnel. This gesture has been promoted as a project of the FSEA and has provided enormous well deserved positive public relations for our association.
Please join with me in inviting to the podium Past District Deputy Lenny Smallacombe for the award as the Florida State Elks Association Elk of the Year for 2010-2011.
James E. Hurst
