On Feb. 17, Fort Walton Elks Lodge #1795 awarded a $3,000 Elks National Foundation Beacon Grant to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church after-school backpack program for Edwins Elementary School, which provides weekend meals for students in need or who might otherwise go hungry. Every third Sunday of each month, the church collects individually packed nutritious food items and distributes them through backpacks.
